AWANA Grand Prix
Tonight was the AWANA Grand Prix / Pine Wood Derby for Ariel. Even though Alex was enrolled in the race we still took the time to build a vehicle for him. Both the kids picked out their design for their vehicles. I performed the cuts with my jig saw and dremmel then the kids sanded their vehicles and painted them. I was lucky enough to help add some of the paint designs on Alex's truck and touched up some of Ariel's writing as she was feeling under the weather thanks to allergy season.
There were 24 cars in the first round of races of which Ariel came in 6th overall with an average speed of 167.7 MPH. That was good enough to move her into the 2nd heat with the top 12 cars - she came in 5th overall in the second round of races with an average speed of 168.3 MPH. The competition was close and in the third round of races she ended up 6th with an average speed of 168.5 MPH.
I am thankful that my kids are good sports when it comes to activities like these. Ariel was never boastful during the races and encouraged the girls who's cars looked great but lacked speed on the track. I think she remembered the fact that there were years her car was the one that always seemed to finish last yet every year has been fun no matter where she finished in the standings. The same can be said for Alex during the Sparky Grand Prix. I am proud of them and blessed by the smiles on their faces at the end of every years race!

Easter - A Day for Praise!
Easter Song
Here the bells ringing,
They're singing that you can be born again,
Here the bells ringing,
They're singing Christ is risen from the dead.
The angel up on the tombstone,
Said He has risen, just as He said,
Quickly now, go tell his disciples,
That Jesus Christ is no longer dead.
Joy to the word, He has risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah.
Hear the bells ringing,
They're singing that you can be healed right now,
Hear the bells ringing, they're singing,
Christ, He will reveal it now,
The angels, they all surround us,
And they are ministering Jesus' power,
Quickly now, reach out and receive it,
For this could be your glorious hour.
Joy to the world, He has risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah, hallelujah…..
The angel up on the tombstone,
Said He has risen, just as He said,
Quickly now, go tell his disciples,
That Jesus Christ is no longer dead.
Joy to the world, He has risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah,
He's risen, hallelujah, hallelujah…..

Newborn Chicks
The kids and I went out this week and got a 6 piece Chicky nugget - no not the greasy bad for you kind but the farm fresh get to play with your food kind - day old baby chickens!
I really wanted to add some more chickens to our flock but didn't want to order more than a few and although possible the shipping cost usually makes it unreasonable so we decided to keep our eyes open for local chicks. The other day I stopped in to our local Tractor Supply Company and after talking to my usual store attendant I found out that they would be getting in chicks this week! This meant that I would be able to get a couple new birds for the same $ as the hatchery we order from but not have to pay for shipping and the worry of if the chicks survived the trip.
I found out that they arrived last night so the kids and I went out to do errands today and our last stop was to pick out a few new baby chicks to raise. Now the bonus was there is no shipping cost - the down fall is that there is not a large selection of breeds to choose from. To my surprise both breeds offered were "sex links" which means when they are hatched the cocks and pullets are different colors which makes adding pullets/hens to the flock a sure thing - I have come to realize that 1 rooster is more than enough and if he keeps up his antics with Alex it will be 1 to many (hopefully he is just experiencing a little spring fever!)
We decided on the Red Sex Links which are known for their kind disposition and enjoy interacting with humans and they are proficient egg layers which is one of the main reasons we have them. I cleaned and set up the brooder and the chicks have made it through their first day - one has taken a liking to the kids and if she can't see them chirps loudly until either one of the kids peeks over the edge or she falls asleep from exhaustion!

MULA a Blessing in Disguise
I have spent much time pondering the events that took place throughout this week approximately 2009 years ago. There were several defining moments that took place:
Jesus entering Jerusalem while riding a donkey and the town folks covering his path with their garments and palm leaves while shouting 'Hosanna'
The Priests plotting against Jesus and for 30 pieces of silver Judas Iscariot joined in on the betrayal.
The Last Supper and the explanation of "Communion"
The Garden of Gethsemane
The betrayal of Jesus by Judas
Peter's denial of Jesus
Jesus' trial by the Jewish leaders
Jesus' questioning by Pontius Pilate
The releasing of Barabbas in exchange for Jesus
The beating and mocking of Jesus
The trip to Golgotha with the cross
The Crucifixion
The burial
THE RESURRECTION!
As a Christian one of the things during the "Holy Week" that always struck me was Peter's denial of Jesus. Here is a man who walked Hand-in-Hand with Jesus and in a moment of fear he not only denied Him once he did it 3 times in a matter of moments!
I know why Peter scoffed at the idea that he would fulfill this prophecy in the time frame given him. As the owner of a crowing rooster I realize that the window of time from his conversation with Jesus to the final denial was a short amount of time - at least it was if the rooster that Jesus spoke of was anything like our rooster Bobby!
It just goes to solidify the fact that we need to keep our focus on God and the fact that He is with us (Really With US - Not just a state of mind) and we need to acknowledge Him and spend every moment possible communing with Him - after all that is our Purpose!
The Easter Egg has been labeled with all sorts of meanings, some religious and other pagan. I like to think of the Easter Egg as a reminder of the Resurrection of Jesus -and the Real Easter Egg resulting in a new born chick reminds us of New Birth and the resulting empty shell reminds us of the empty Tomb!
While I didn't hatch them myself the kids and I picked up 6 new spring chicks today. I hope to use them as an object lesson so they will be reminders to the children about the importance of Easter not only during this week but throughout the entire year.
Happy Easter
Mark 16:1-6
1 Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 3 On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 4 But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside. 5 When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, 6 but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body.
